Apart from the tense contests, there were also several young talents moving up in grades to compete in the opening round.
Willow Tree defeated Belmore Women 2-1, while Royal Hotel Women had a 0-all draw.
Old Fella’s were defeated by Royal Hotel Men 3-0 in the only one-sided result, with Keevers Cougars going down to Scone Sporties by a single goal, 2-1.
In the final match of the round, Muswellbrook handed Belmore Hotel Men a 3-1 loss.
This weekend’s matches will see the Legends play RSL on field 2, Willow Tree faces Scone Sporties on field 4 and Muswellbrook battles the Old Fella’s on field 3 from 1.30pm.
The later games have Royal Hotel Women locking horns with Belmore Hotel Women on field 3 and Royal Hotel Men playing Belmore Hotel Men on field 4.
Keevers Cougars has the bye. Meanwhile, junior players took part in a ‘Come and Try’ day on an inflatable hockey field at the weekend.
They will receive further coaching at 10.30am and noon for the under-12's and 17’s respectively.
