THIS will be my final State Matters column, as I will retire on election day exactly 27 years and one week after I was first elected on March 19, 1988.

I want to thank all of the people of the electorate of Upper Hunter who, over the years, have supported me so strongly.
In return I hope I have been able to represent everyone in the electorate equally.
My wife, Vassy, and I have had a great time attending many functions, awards, ceremonies, school events, sporting events and everything imaginable.
The welcome and courtesies we received, and the heartwarming response to our presence, has made it all worthwhile.
Parliamentary representation encompasses the Parliament, constitutional and legislative aspects, ministerial and higher office, but, above all is the representation of individual constituents in the electorate.
Best wishes to everyone and for the fulfilment of everyone’s hopes and aspirations for their families, for young people and for those who need help in one way or another.
I wish my successor the very best and know I will continue my keen interest in the affairs of the electorate and the fulfilment of many projects and infrastructure that lie ahead.
