It is one of several libraries across the state to gain funds to improve buildings, spaces and information technology for the community.
Upper Hunter MP?George Souris said it was essential for regional NSW to have access to library services.
“Public libraries play a crucial role in our local communities providing access to collections, information and technology that help people at all stages of their lives,” he said.
“The Liberals and Nationals government is committed to working with councils to enhance library services and facilities across the state.”
Upper Hunter Shire mayor Michael Johnsen and Upper Hunter library coordinator Elizabeth Walter were at Merriwa to celebrate the news.
Mr Johnsen said the grant would give the library a chance to expand and meet the demands of local residents.
“The upgrade of the Merriwa library will enhance the community resource and improve access for people with mobility issues,” Mr Johnsen said.
