More than 1000 competitors qualified for the tournament, with the Upper Hunter performing strongly in several events.
In the girls section, Singleton’s Saffron Sylvester claimed fourth in the under-17 100m sprint final and second in the triple jump with a leap of 10.25m.
Kaitlyn Van-Zyl and Emma Higgins, also from Singleton, took out second in the under-8 shot put and third in the under-14s discus respectively.
Aberdeen’s Kate Lloyd ran the 3000m event in a time of 13:21:57, while Merriwa’s Darcy Taafe reached the final of the under-8 60m hurdles.
Singleton also recorded impressive results in the boy’s events, with Ethan McLaughlin and Sam Howard starring in their age groups.
McLaughlin came first in the under-11 100m sprint, clocking a time of 14 seconds, and he also won the 200m final.
Not to be outdone, Howard recorded a winning time of 54.41 seconds in the under-17s 400m sprint.
He backed this up with a second-place finish in the 800m final.
Merriwa’s Clancy Moore also took third in the under-13 high jump, while Aberdeen’s Ethan Earl finished second in the under-12 shot put.
Zone 2 coordinator John Watson said it was a promising showing from the Upper Hunter’s representatives.
“There was a good selection of results; we didn’t have any winners from Muswellbrook but Singleton did quite well,” he said.
“Kids were competing from Merriwa for only the second time and they put in some great performances.
“Aberdeen also a few athletes there, including one who ran in the 3000m event.
“I think about four or five have now qualified to go through to the state championships.”
About 70 athletes from the Upper Hunter competed in the tournament.
