NEWCASTLE trainer Paul Perry might have produced a Golden Slipper contender in Petrossian which created a huge impression, on debut, in winning the Isis Motel Two Year Old Maiden (1000m) in class record time at Muswellbrook on Saturday.

The Lonhro colt, bought by Perry at the Magic Millions sale and a half brother to Madame Pedrille, has been nominated for the Slipper and all the major lead up races.
“He is a very nice colt,” Perry said.
“He is still green and I decided to send him up to Muswellbrook as part of a learning process rather than trialling him again.
“If he continues to improve I will probably start him in one of the Slipper lead up races and then see where we go from there.”
Petrossian, ridden by Glenn Lynch, started a long odds-on favourite on the strength of an impressive trial win at Newcastle.
He was slowly away but mustered speed to be sitting third on the fence to the turn and then shot away in the straight to win by three and a quarter lengths in 57.93 seconds.
The time was almost a second faster than the previous class record and he managed to run home the last 600 metres in a brilliant 33.55 seconds.
“He is a very nice colt,” Lynch said.
“He mucked up the start but after a furlong the race was all over.
“He has a lot of improvement.”
