Damien Leahy was in his boat when he spotted the 3.5 metre shark's fin in the water on Saturday January 3.
He said it was the first time he had seen a shark so close to swimmers with roughly 30 to 40 children playing inside the nearby shark net.

"It's a good job the net was there because it could have been a lot worse," Mr Leahy said.
Mr Leahy pushed the shark with his boat out to deeper water and noticed its fin had been bitten.
"Maybe a larger shark had attacked it and it was was using the shallow water for protection."
