The season officially started on October 1, but the RFS brought forward that commencement date by one month to September 1, 2014.
Superintendent Andrew Luke, from the Liverpool Range Zone, said his firefighters have been out and about looking at the water situation right across the Upper Hunter.
“Obviously water is our primary combat method of dealing with fires and certainly the shortage of water will make our job more difficult this season,” he said.
Superintendent Luke says landowners and rural residents can log their dams, creeks, swimming pools or water tanks with the RFS as part of the Static Water Supply program.
“A brigade officer can come out inspect the water source and we can issue GPS co-ordinates, map and log the site and attach a reflective plate at the entrance to the property,” he said.
