St Catherine’s Catholic College students Naomi Moriarty and Kellie Flinn are two of 605 Upper Hunter students sitting the HSC this year.
The two students said it feels weird to not be going to class on a school day.
While they agree there is a lot of pressure surrounding the HSC, they say it can give a good burst of motivation to put in their best effort.
“You can only do the best you can,” Miss Flinn said.
“I think everyone’s different and I think having your own personal goals [is essential],” Miss Moriarty said.
The Singleton students said they have heard about a number of different study routines and styles.
They knew a story of a student being locked in the library because they were so focussed on their study.
Miss Moriarty would like to go to university, perhaps after a bit of travel, and Miss Flinn is looking for an apprenticeship.
Miss Moriarty said the HSC experience feels like a transition into adulthood and the two pupils are grateful for everyone who helped them throughout their studies, including teachers and parents.
Their advice for students entering their HSC year this week included working with their classmates and finding a balance between study and fun.
However, they believe the most important thing to do is to enjoy the experience.
“Life’s a garden- dig it,” said Miss Moriarty with a laugh.
