The local community organisation is celebrating 40 years of service to the people of Singleton and would love to see as many people as possible join them in the festivities.
Aside from being a big birthday party, there are a number of reasons for the event - to raise awareness of what the centre does, to encourage community spirit and to raise funds for the Centre’s current project- Open Door @ SNC.
The Open Door project is a shed to be fitted with a full-size kitchen, disabled and non-disabled toilets and showers, and a laundry.
The centre also plans to host cooking classes in the kitchen Singleton Neighbourhood Centre director Judy Mitchell (pictured) said she hopes people will see how important the shed is for the town as a whole.
“It won’t just be for the homeless,” she told the Hunter Valley News.
“A mother of four kids whose washing machine breaks down could come here to wash the clothes.
“It could also be used for TAFE Outreach programs.
“We’ve raised $32,000 from community donations and we still need $200,000.”
Ms Mitchell said there will be lots on offer at their birthday party and all are welcome.
“Come along, have a good day and find out what we do here- It’s just a big open day,” she said.
“We’ll have the history of the centre on display, going right back to 1974.”
Activities on offer include a jelly bean guessing competition, face painting, a jumping castle and the chance to meet Peppa Pig.
It isn’t just a day for the kids though.
There will be cake, plant and book stalls, used clothing racks, and a trash and treasure stall.
You can also enjoy a barbecue lunch for a gold coin donation.
In the meantime, you can pick up raffle tickets from the centre’s Mary Street office for $2 each or $5 for three.
There are great prizes up for grabs if your ticket is selected.
First place wins a 63GB iPad, second prize is a phone, and third place is six bottles of mixed wine from Catherine Vale Wines.
All the fun will be at Singleton Neighbourhood Centre on Saturday, October 25, from 10am to 2pm.
