Friday is the deadline for many of the pavilion entries which includes the handcraft, baking, jams and preserves.

Among those excited about the  show are siblings, Sarah and Katie McKay.

Both are sewing students of Lyn Hiscox and 2014 will be the second time they have entered their work in the childrens handcraft section.

Sarah said she was so excited when she saw the first place blue card on her work last year.  Sister Katie also managed a second and third placing and has put quite a few hours into her entries this year keen to pick up the prizes on offer.

You can’t help but be impressed with the intricate handwork of Mrs Hiscox but, as a rule, she doesn’t enter her work in the Singleton Show.  Instead she is one of the organisers and is preparing for a busy week.

Judging in the handcraft and cooking categories of the show take place on Thursday, September 25, and then Lyn and her fellow volunteers have the role of displaying the work.

“It is a busy time for everyone and we can always do with a few more volunteers,” Mrs Hiscox said.

Chief steward of the handcraft section, Val Smith is anticipating some 200 entries, including a regular entrant who sends work all the way from Bendemeer.

Surprisingly, one person feeling very relaxed about the event is the showground’s caretaker, Ric Jackson, who says the showground is looking in spectacular form.

“The new cattleyards have been finished in time for the show with a brand new cattle crush and last week at the Singleton Dressage Championships I received nothing but praise, riders were saying the grounds felt fantastic, the best ever,” a proud Mr Jackson said.

He added that the preparations for the show had been particularly well organised and that interest in all the events had been keen.

“We received almost 100 entries on the first day the campdraft opened which is a pretty good indicator we are in for a fantastic event,” he said.
