Upper Hunter Shire Council, along with the Aberdeen Tigers Rugby League Football Club, successfully applied for the funding for an electrical power upgrade to the ground.

With this grant, the club arranged for the electricity supply to be upgraded from 80amps to 200amps.

This has included a new power pole, two power boards and an underground electricity supply to the canteen.

This upgrade means the canteen and lighting for the field are now on two separate electricity supplies minimising power outages.

The canteen will no longer work off a generator, which has for years been supplied by Coates Hire, and will have a greater capacity for catering as well as room for expansion for the club.

Tigers first grade coach Daniel Hoogerwerf said the grant had meant game days weren’t a hassle any more as they did not need to set up the generator each morning.

Club president Les Horvath thanked Coates Hire for the generator, Mark Wilton and all volunteers for their work on this upgrade, and Upper Hunter Shire Council for their support.

“This benefits not just the Aberdeen club but everyone who uses the facilities,” Upper Hunter Shire mayor Michael Johnsen said.

“It’s a great example of council and the community working together to improve the shire.”
