IT might be an event which benefits the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service but the Black Coal Cup would not be the fundraiser it is without the help of sponsors, according to organiser Joe Matthews.

“We’re very grateful for the support we get, especially the local businesses who are involved each and every year,” he said.
“Devoid of their assistance, the day would be nowhere near the financial success it is.”
The popular golf day is scheduled to tee off at the Muswellbrook Golf Club on Tuesday, August 26.
And, Mr Matthews can’t wait to celebrate the event’s 15th anniversary.
“We are looking forward to another great day for the entire community,” he said.
“Everyone is invited to come down and join in, even if you’re not playing.
“The Lioness Club will cook breakfast from 7.30am.
“Stop in on your way to or from work – for just a gold coin donation.
“Then about 10.30am, meet and get autographs from Newcastle Knights players when they arrive on the chopper.
“Inspect the aircraft, have a chat with the pilot and crewman, who will explain more about the service, how it works and the missions they’ve attended.”
Mr Matthews said it was also a great opportunity to support the Black Coal Cup’s valuable sponsors.
“It’s a chance to see what they have to offer,” he told the Chronicle.
“Participate in their competitions, as well as the many raffles.
“Golfers can win a new Holden Barina for a hole-in-one, courtesy of Muswellbrook Holden.
“Anyone is able to take part in the Coates Hire Dingo Bucket Challenge.
“Chip a ball into the bucket and go in the draw to win an X-Box gaming console valued at more than $500.
“Luxbet Promo reps will be on course, handing out information and giveaways throughout the day.
“If you’re not playing, just relax in the clubhouse – a gold coin donation will get you cake, a slice, tea or coffee for morning or afternoon tea.”
The monster auction is scheduled for 5pm, before the presentation.
The golf club’s new courtesy bus will also be available from early morning.
However, it must be booked before the day, by phoning the club.
There are also some paid team positions available, so contact Joe Matthews on 6543 4427 for more details.
