Upper Hunter Shire Council is looking for community members who would like to contribute to the planning and development of the Scone and Upper Hunter Airport.
Council recently amended the charter of the committee to include membership from:
* Two councillors, one being the chairperson;
* Four operators from the aviation industry located within the airport precinct; and
* One community representative.
Three vacancies exist for these positions, one for the community representative and two for aviation operators.
It is envisaged that the role of community representative be filled by a person who is not an airport operator but perhaps has a keen interest in the development of the airport and the impact on the community from airport operations.
The committee meets about once every two months.
One of its main focuses currently is the development of a strategic plan for the airport.
Upper Hunter Shire Council general manager Waid Crockett said the Scone and Upper Hunter Airport Management Committee performed an important role for the region.
“Committees of council are very important in ensuring that the council works with the community, seeks advice on specific local issues and needs, and has community input into planning and service provision,” he said.
“The committees provide a mechanism for interested members to have an active role in the provision and management of the airport and provide advice to council in decision making.”
If you are interested in nominating for the Scone and Upper Hunter Airport Management Committee, send written applications to the council at PO Box 208, Scone, or council@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au by Friday.
Any enquiries in regard to this committee should be directed to council’s Airport manager Coleen Pinkerton on 6540 1109 or cpinkerton@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au
