The occupation was voted as The Australian Reader’s Digest most trusted profession for the 11th consecutive year.

Scone Ambulance station officer Tim McEwen has been a paramedic for more than a decade.

He said there was a lot of variety in that line of work.

“It is an inherently self-rewarding job – more so than any other job I’ve worked,” he told the Hunter Valley News.

“You get to go in to work and make a very big difference in someone else’s life in a very short amount of time.”

Mr McEwen said paramedics don’t do their job for the recognition, but to help people.

“People call an ambulance when their whole world is caving in,” he said.

“We can bring control to that environment in their hour of need – anytime, anywhere.”

He said NSW paramedics were no longer around to simply pat someone on the back and drive them to the hospital; they now have a large set of skills.

Mr McEwen used the “win” as a chance to thank the community.

“Thanks to the public for their support; not only for voting [NSW paramedics] as the most trusted profession but also for their general support,” he said.

“Quite often we don’t get to stick around and say thank you but we can’t do it without them and our other emergency colleagues.”
