“We are expecting probably record entries,” he told the Hunter Valley News.
“Last year we were voted Rodeo of the Year by our association, the ABCRA.
“It’s safe to say we will have every national champion from last year here.”
The rodeo has been running for decades, but six years ago the decision was made to put the proceeds to charity.
Mr Smith said they always supported local schools, people or organisations – and 2014 was no different.
“This year we are supporting the Jamie Manning recovery fund,” he said.
“He is a local boy, and bull rider, who had a serious accident here about six weeks ago and he is still recovering in Sydney.
“We will definitely be supporting that.”
There will be an auction during the night in aid of this cause as well.
So, there’ll be top riders and a good cause, but that isn’t everything the Scone Charity Rodeo has to offer.
To put a bit of pressure on the younger riders, and to
give the crowd some kicks, something new has been added to the program.
“Some legends are coming out of retirement to take on some of the young guns,” Mr Smith said.
“That’ll be good, there are a few generations involved.”
And if that wasn’t enough, The Viper Creek Band will kick off at the end of the rodeo to keep the party going into the night.
The action kicks off from 5pm on Saturday, May 10, at White Park, Scone.
Entry is $15 for adults, $8 for children and $35 for a family (two adults and two children).
There is also a full junior rodeo on Sunday, which kicks off at 8am and entry is free for this event.
