More than 200 riders make the annual fundraising trip, from the very young to the experienced horseman.
Since its establishment two decades ago, the ride has raised in excess of $210,000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Appeal.
Success in the past is only spurring organisers on with an aim to lift the bar this year and raise more than $35,000.
Entertainment begins on Friday at the Tourist Hotel and participants are invited to camp for $10 per site.
Sandy Hollow Westpac Rescue Helicopter Charity Horse Ride president Mark Judge said it was a great event.
“The people who come really enjoy the horse ride part of it,” he told the Hunter Valley News.
“But the most rewarding part is to raise money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Appeal.
“It’s a service everyone can use and it’s imperative that it stays in the area.”
The main event horse ride will begin at 7am the following morning at Honey Lane, behind the school.
Starting the adventure on an empty stomach is not advisable.
You can boost your energy levels by buying breakfast at the location from 6am.
Ride entry is $20 per person or $60 per family.
Morning tea is included.
No stallions can join the ride.
