The Singleton branch began just five days after Red Cross was established in Australia.
Singleton branch president Linda Frazer attributes the longevity of the group, and its ever-increasing membership of more than 40, to its principles.
“This milestone is not only for Red Cross but also for the Singleton community,” she told the Hunter Valley News.
“[The members] have always been amazing women and men.
“We’re very grateful for all the [community] support.”
March is Red Cross calling month and so branches across the organisation are busy planning their major annual fundraisers.
Being their centenary, the local group is expecting their celebration to be even bigger than usual, dubbing it Singleton Red Cross Calling: Floral Fantasy and Market Day.
The Singleton CWA rooms will be transformed into a floral masterpiece with everything from flowery umbrellas to framed pictures.
“Usually we have two days in someone’s garden but this year it will be all in one day,” Mrs Frazer said.
From 10am to 4pm, on Saturday, the public can walk through the selection of all things that blossom.
There will also be refreshments throughout the day and stalls selling everything from pre-loved jewellery to cakes.
At 11am, there will be a presentation by Kaylene from Bloons & Blooms.
The proceeds from the event will support Red Cross and, in turn, a number of wider community projects.
Red Cross is always welcoming new members, male and female of any age.
“Everybody is welcome; you’re never too young, never too old,” Mrs Frazer said.
“Help us and Red Cross will help others.”
