Peter Maynard, from Adelaide, snapped his entry while on holiday in Hong Kong. A keen amateur photographer, Mr Maynard took inspiration from French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, who talked about ''decisive moments''.
Melburnian Luke Priday submitted a smart phone picture of an Argentinian barbecue vendor at Melbourne's renowned Queen Victoria Markets. ''You can just see a genuine joy in him, despite the fact he was standing over such a hot workplace,'' he said.
There are two awards up for grabs, each with a $2500 prize.
Entries close on September 8 and pick up The Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday for the Good Food Month program. See goodfoodmonth.com/shootthechef.
