It is the name given to new skaters in roller derby leagues internationally – and Valley Roller Girls are looking for their next intake of members.
Rebecca Logue, the league’s fresh meat coordinator, is leading the campaign.
“Everyone has the ability to skate,” she said.
“All you need to do is focus and give it a go.”
Valley Roller Girls is a women’s flat track roller derby league, training women over the age of 18 to play the full contact sport.
Men can get in on the action as referees.
They train to skate with everyone else then learn to control the game as an official.
Ms Logue, known to her fellow skaters as Phoenix, enjoys being a part of the wider derby community which spans around the world.
“It’s not just about being a small league here, it is an international thing,” she said.
Skaters join for a range of reasons – for Ms Logue, it was the fitness and fun that drew her to the sport.
The next fresh meat intake is scheduled in July. This Sunday the league will be set up at the Muswellbrook Markets with details of the two information sessions the following weeks.
