Even though the Thoroughbreds took out the rugby league clash 32-28, the Mavericks were attacking the opposition line as the hooter sounded.
However, the last-minute raid was thwarted by the committed Scone defence.
“Corey Holman and Graham McRae proved very strong in attack as always, both crossing the line,” Murrurundi secretary Cathy West said.
“Troy Hyde led from the front, making plenty of good hit-ups.
“He was also rewarded with a try.
“Kieren French got a double playing on the wing and proved to be a handy asset in the halves’ department.
“That’s just to name a few.
“We were very proud of the boys’ efforts on the weekend and their commitment to training.
“The coaching staff realises there is still a lot of improvement to be made and our best football is still to come.
“We have, however, proved to be a competitive side and one to be reckoned with.
“Thank you to all the supporters who turned out for the day.
“It always lifts the boys to see a great home crowd on hand.
“And, to the many helpers who made our day such a great success, it was greatly appreciated.
“A big congratulations go to halfback Dean Brown and his partner Kimberly Willard on the birth of their son (a new Maverick) on Sunday morning.”
